Revelations
The richest part of today's service was not the sermon where we wallowed in our sinful and "perverted" ways. I thought the reading from Revelation was like hearing some one's dream of Heaven. (Revelation 21:10, 22-22:5) There was just this one unsettling part of the scripture. "But nothing unclean will enter it, nor anyone who practices abomination or falsehood, but only those who are written in the Lamb's book of life." I think Charlie was trying to say that we repent of our sins, are forgiven, and when we repeat the sin, God will forgive us over and over again. So, will we humans ever be clean enough to enter the Holy City? What kind of abominable practice keeps a person out? Can a person rewrite the "Lamb's book of life?" Today's Baptism would have been a good segue to help explain this scripture to us poor pewsters. At least for an hour I was cleansed of sin. Now, here I go again..........
In today's lessons we are taught to keep on knocking at the door if turned away. I have to remember that if I get to the pearly gates and find them locked.

ReplyDeleteGood question. Perhaps we could start with the abominable practices outlawed in Leviticus. In line with Charlie's sermon, all the Primates have asked of ECUSA is genuine repentance and a return to grace. Unfortunately, the HOB has seen fit to merely apologize if anyone is upset over this little theological excursion down a dark alley. I believe there is Trouble---right here in river city.
In Leviticus I read: "4:3: If the priest that is anointed do sin according to the sin of the people; then let him bring for his sin, which he hath sinned, a young bullock without blemish unto the LORD for a sin offering.
ReplyDelete11:43: Ye shall not make yourselves abominable with any creeping thing that creepeth, neither shall ye make yourselves unclean with them, that ye should be defiled thereby."
So, I need to stay away from creeps, and a repentant PB will offer a young bullock as a sacrice. Our future will thus be made secure.
oops, I meant "sacrifice"
ReplyDeleteIf our future will be made secure by a repentant PB, we may be in for a long wait.
