There is a Gospel reading for Independence Day, and it is from Matthew 5:43-48,
In today's society, loving your enemy appears to mean that you let them continue on whatever path of self destruction they have chosen, and sometimes it means allowing them to destroy other persons, places or things either by their actions or by their words.
Sometimes loving your enemy means locking him up or even putting him down.
That is the only way for a free people to remain free.
‘You have heard that it was said, “You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.” But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax-collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.America obtained its independence from the enemies of liberty only after a long and bloody revolutionary war which begs the question: "How do we love our enemy as Jesus commands us when that enemy is out to kill us, is out to deprive us of freedom, or is out of his mind crazy?"

A number of conservative commentators have been saying for years that conservative believers (and conservative voters) are at physical risk from leftists. I have been inclined to dismiss that as an extreme position, but I no longer think so. If radicals take over the government the results could be dire. I am readily willing to live in peace with people who don't agree with me. Leftist radicals are not willing to do so, and they are increasingly spreading the hatred among previously non-radicals who don't stop to think.
ReplyDeleteThe radical playbook maintains that you must hate your enemy. It then advises one to recruit thugs, outcasts, convicts, and violent types to do the dirty work.
